In the early hours of today, tragedy struck the community of McKenzie, Linden, as firefighters battled a fierce blaze that claimed the life of one individual and rendered four others homeless.

At approximately 01:42 hours, the Linden Fire Station received a distress call reporting a fire at the intersection of Dageraad Avenue and Greenheart Street. Responding swiftly, firefighters arrived at the scene by 01:49 hours to find a wooden and concrete two-story building consumed by flames.

Led by Section Leader Reynolds, the courageous responders wasted no time in deploying Water Bowser #12 to combat the inferno. Despite their valiant efforts, the fire had already exacted a devastating toll, claiming the life of one occupant, identified as Zang.

The property, along with all its contents, suffered irreparable damage, leaving four individuals without shelter. With two jets operating from Water Bowser #12, firefighters managed to contain the blaze, preventing further destruction.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway, with authorities diligently working to ascertain its origin and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Guyana Fire Service extends heartfelt condolences to those affected by this tragic event and commends the bravery and quick response of the firefighters who faced adversity head-on.
