A video that surfaced over the weekend, showing a woman vandalizing a car in Georgetown, has gone viral. However, there is a disturbing backstory that allegedly led to the woman’s actions.
The video, captured on CCTV, sparked widespread speculation that the woman was a member of the Guyana Police Force. In an interview, a relative of the 27-year-old woman confirmed that she is a member of the GPF and revealed that she is a victim of domestic violence. The relative also claimed that the woman has a shared ownership interest in the vehicle she destroyed.
According to the relative, the woman’s 26-year-old ex-boyfriend, a taxi driver, had subjected her to physical and emotional abuse on multiple occasions, leading her to end the relationship. The relative alleged that the man had previously burned the woman with hot tea, and despite her family’s warnings, she returned to him after finding out she was pregnant with his child.
A number of videos that were seen by Guyana Uncut News, appear to confirm the woman’s allegations of domestic violence. In one of the video clips, the man is seen assaulting the woman with a machete/cutlass. In another video, he appears to be trailing her in the car, which she later destroyed.
Guyana Uncut News reached out to the man for a response to the allegations, but he failed to comment.
The woman, who is said to be in a depressed state, is afraid to report the matter to the authorities due to the negative stigma surrounding domestic violence cases involving police officers. She believes that her ex-boyfriend leaked the video of her destroying the car to gain public sympathy, despite being the aggressor who pushed her to the limit.
