‘Guyanese Critic’ Given 7-Day Ultimatum to Repay Loans for India Trip and Business Ventures
Mikhail Rodrigues, popularly known as the ‘Guyanese Critic’ on social media and a government contractor, has been given a tight deadline of seven days to repay borrowed funds totaling US$3000 and GYD$17,500,000. These loans were primarily for financing his trip to India alongside Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo and for setting up his construction company and ‘They Break News’ (TBN) studio, as revealed in a lawyer’s letter obtained by Guyana Uncut News.
The letter, issued by POONAI & POONAI law firm on behalf of Azruddin Mohamed, highlights the outstanding debt Rodrigues owes despite repeated requests for repayment. Failure to comply within the stipulated time frame will prompt legal action, including the recovery of the owed amounts, legal expenses, and accrued interest.
Azruddin Mohamed, a prominent businessman, disclosed to the media that Rodrigues approached him for a US$3000 loan to accompany Vice President Jagdeo on an official visit to India in February 2023. However, Rodrigues has yet to reimburse the borrowed amount. Additionally, Rodrigues owes GYD$7.5 million for constructing his studio and another GYD$10 million for initiating his construction company.
Rodrigues is associated with Tepui Group Inc., a construction firm that secured a significant government contract worth $865 million for building a pump station in Belle Vue, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
This development sheds light on financial strains faced by Rodrigues, raising questions about his business dealings and financial management.
