Deomattie Rampersaud

A 56-year-old woman is now hospitalized after being chopped by her partner on Wednesday night. Injured is Deomattie Rampersaud, a salesperson and an overseas- based Guyanese of Lot 3 Highberry Village, East Bank Berbice.

According to reports, around 21:30 hours on March 27th Rampersaud and the suspect, 44-year-old Munishwar Hamraj, were at home in the upper flat of her two-storey wooden and concrete house when they had an argument over her being on her cellular phone talking to a male friend.

Rampersaud told investigators that during the misunderstanding she threatened to put out Hemraj, and he became upset and pulled out a cutlass from behind the bedroom door and dealt her several chops about her body, causing her to receive severe injuries.

According to information received, after committing the vicious act, Hemraj took Rampersaud to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for medical attention. Rampersaud is currently admitted as a patient in the female surgical ward.

Her condition is listed as serious but stable.

Rampersaud and Hamraj have been in a common-law relationship for about two years and are having trust issues with each other.

Police said the suspect was arrested and is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
