Six people were attacked and stung by bees on Easter Monday at the seawall at Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

They are: 6-year-old Suraj Baljit, 8-year-old Nandanie Persaud, Jasmatie Persaud, 33, Nobert Pereira, Harinarine Baljit, and Padminie Baljit all of Graham Street Plaisance, ECD.

Jasmatie Persaud told the news that her daughter had wanted to urine on the said day while they were on the seawall.

After she took the 8-year-old girl to urine, they were attacked and stung by bees.

“Easter Day, around twelve thirty-one we reach at the seawall. When we reached there a little while after, my daughter said she wanted to go pee (urine). So I took her like two of the rocks in, and we put her to pee. And while she was taking off her belt, she asked what’s flying around her head, so I said it was probably flies. By the time I watched back, there were a lot of bees. Her whole head was already taken over by the bees and her whole skin. So my sister went now and threw herself because my sister and I went there. So my sister threw herself on top of her while I ran from there and grabbed my two other kids, a 1-year-old and 6-year-old, Suraj Baljit. I grabbed them and jumped down the seawall,” Jasmatie said.

She added that despite their efforts, they were all stung by the bees. They were rescued by public-spirited citizens at the location, and bees that held on to their bodies were removed by the public spirited citizens, and their skins were sanitized.

The woman said her brother-in-law and husband then went to rescue her daughter and sister, and they, too, were also stung. They were subsequently rescued, and police were called in. An ambulance was then summoned, and they were all taken to the hospital by police and the emergency medical technicians.

The woman said: “By time we reached the hospital, we were vomiting and weak weak. They gave treatment and sent us home. But Nandanie was in a bad shape, so they kept her in, and she came out Thursday.”

Additionally, the woman is calling on the relevant authorities to get rid of the bees from the area. Jasmatie also took the opportunity to say thanks to the public-spirited citizens, police and medical workers that assisted them.
