Vitesh Jamnapersad Guptar, a businessman of Lot 93 Duke Street, Kingston, appeared before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday charged with the offense of overstay of persons in Guyana.
Charge laid under Section 34 (L) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 14:02.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months in jail.Guptar was previously charged with the offense of conspiracy to traffick in narcotics to a foreign land.
He was remanded to jail until March 28, 2024, for that offense.The businessman has been on Interpol’s Red Notice since 2019.
He is expected to be extradited to Italy to face more charges.
