A fire of unknown origin destroyed a shop in E’ Field Sophia in the early hours of Monday morning, leaving the owner with significant losses.
The blaze, which occurred at around 3:30 am, completely gutted the 10×15 foot wooden structure, which was located on the eastern side of the street. The shop, owned by a 45-year-old businessman, was found to be fully engulfed in flames when police and firefighters arrived on the scene.
According to eyewitnesses, the owner had secured his shop at midnight on Sunday, with all valuables intact, including electronics and groceries. However, he was awoken by two loud sounds at around 3:30 am to find his shop on fire.
The Fire Service responded quickly, with two water tenders from Campbell Fire Station and Headquarters arriving on the scene to extinguish the flames. A neighboring shop, owned by a 31-year-old construction worker, also suffered partial damage to its southern side wall.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and police are currently investigating the incident. Several persons in the area have been questioned, and CCTV cameras in the vicinity are being reviewed as part of the investigation, which is ongoing.
