The Ministry of Health responded to recent claims made by opposition APNU+AFC parliamentarian, Christopher Jones, regarding an incident at the Campbellville Health Centre. Jones alleged on Facebook that ten nurses from the health center fell ill after discovering a syringe in a water dispenser. However, the Ministry denied these allegations and provided clarification on the situation.
According to the Ministry, no staff reported feeling unwell at the time of the discovery. Instead, a syringe was found lodged in a water dispenser in the staff lunchroom, with traces of alcohol detected in both the syringe and the water dispenser. The Ministry emphasized that all necessary protocols were followed, including the immediate transportation of staff members to the Accident & Emergency Department for precautionary screening.
The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) promptly notified the Guyana Police Force and facilitated their investigation into the matter. Contrary to social media claims, the Health Ministry stated that the incident is under investigation by both the Guyana Police Force and the GPHC’s internal security team.
In light of these findings, the Health Ministry urged the public to exercise caution when sharing information on social media and emphasized the importance of verifying facts before dissemination. The GPHC reiterated its commitment to the health and well-being of its staff and patients and assured that necessary measures are being taken to address the incident.
